It’s been a choppy, back-and-forth session
Wendy Kirkland Market Watch May 11, 2026
The Dow and S&P have swung from red to green multiple times, and the Nasdaq has done the same. Nothing is moving in a straight line today. Some leaders like Nvidia and Micron are solidly green, while plenty of names are still in the red, so the tape feels mixed overall.
Ongoing tension in Iran and shifting expectations around rates and the economy are keeping traders on edge. Looking at the monthly picture, the Dow is still struggling to turn clearly bullish, even though it’s been flirting with that shift. By contrast, the Nasdaq has looked stronger this month and has been building momentum, though extended moves like that can also invite a sharper pullback at some point.
Lots of swings, not a strong “all clear” bullish (or bearish) signal. The bigger takeaway will be where we close the month.
