From Wobbly to Wow: Markets Start the Week Strong
Wendy Kirkland Market Update February 9, 2026
Quick market check-in to start the week. Friday turned out to be a big surprise after a choppy, mostly bearish week—markets rallied hard and closed near the highs. The Dow even pushed past 50,000 for the first time, with strong gains across the Nasdaq, S&P, and Russell.
This morning started a little shaky, but things quickly bounced back. All the major indexes dipped early, then climbed and are now hovering close to their highs for the day. Overall, the market’s been slowly but steadily inching upward, and the “market carpet” shows more green than earlier this morning.
Zooming out to the monthly Dow chart, the indicators are looking pretty encouraging. Momentum and trend signals are pointing bullish, and there’s noticeably more strength behind this move than we’ve seen in recent months. Instead of flat, low-energy gains, things are finally showing some real follow-through.
Bottom line: the data suggests the market may be gearing up for a stronger, more sustained move higher. With earnings season underway and some uncertainty easing, the outlook feels cautiously optimistic.
Happy Trading
