Ian Cooper Webinar July 29, 2025
The core of Ian Cooper’s presentation focuses on the strategy of “Trading the News,” which he broke down into three distinct phases:
- Anticipation of News: This involves identifying and trading on potential news events before they happen. Examples included anticipating rising oil prices due to tensions in the Middle East or trading biotech stocks ahead of FDA decisions.
- Dissemination of News (The Ripple Effect): This phase focuses on how news spreads and continues to impact a stock’s price over time. Cooper explained that not all information is priced in instantly, creating opportunities as the “ripple” of news expands.
- Death of News: This strategy involves trading the reversal of a stock’s price after a major news event has lost its momentum and the market moves on. The rise and subsequent fall of Moderna stock related to COVID news was used as a key example.
